Horizon City woman raising funds for elderly neighbor burned out of mobile home
HORIZON CITY, Texas -- An elderly woman's entire mobile home was engulfed in flames last weekend and was unable to be salvaged.
The mobile home was located in Horizon and the woman, 80-year-old Irene Velasquez, lost everything in the blaze.
Neighbors used their garden hoses but it wasn’t enough to stop the flames.
Firefighters arrived and defused the blaze but by that point Velasquez's possessions were destroyed, the roof had caved in and the frames of the walls barely existed.
Her neighbor Monica Garcia witnessed the devastation first-hand as the fire destroyed every inch of her neighbor's home and created a GoFundMe page on behalf of Velasquez.
Velasquez is at a loss and doesn’t know where to begin in rebuilding the home she once had.
“It’s so sad, It’s very sad.” Velasquez said. “I had a lot of photos in the living room because I wanted to look at them. I thought this is my life."
Some of the photos that remained were burnt to a crisp while others could just barely be made out.
Garcia told ABC-7 that all proceeds will go towards helping get Velasquez settled. The key things Velasquez desperately needs are clothes and help cleaning out what remains of the house.
