Sgt. Pushup comes to El Paso with pushups for a purpose: Fighting hunger
EL PASO, Texas -- Retired U.S. Army Sgt. Patrick Parker of Killeen, Texas travels the U.S. to bring awareness to hunger.
The decorated Iraqi War veteran who goes by the name "Sgt. Pushup" does between 500 and 1,000 pushups at every event he attends to show his thanks to those who donate to the cause.
“Once I found out that 13 million kids go to bed every night without eating, I thought there was a problem with that. So I took massive action,” he explained.
Parker is also an author who writes children's work books. His latest children's book is on germs, which helps explain the coronavirus to young people.
Sgt. Pushup was at the El Pasoans Fighting Hunger facility Friday doing pushups to thank those who donate.
“After over 20 years, I'm back here in El Paso as Sgt. Pushup here right now! So it's time to pound down and get some push ups in and feed some kids,” he told those who gathered to greet him at the local food bank.
