FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — The mass shooting at a Texas elementary school has invaded jury selection at the penalty trial of Florida’s campus killer. Lawyers in the trial of Nikolas Cruz argued Wednesday over whether potential jurors should be questioned directly about the nation’s latest gun tragedy. Cruz’s attorneys said they should be allowed to ask potential jurors directly about their knowledge and feelings about the Uvalde, Texas, shootings that left 19 students and two teachers dead on Tuesday. Prosecutors argued that the cases needed to be kept separate and Texas shouldn’t be mentioned. The judge allowed general questions about school shooting, but not Texas specifically.
