Temporary suspension of commercial vehicles at the Bridge of the Americas today
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- A temporary suspension of commercial operations is in effect today at the Bridge of the Americas.
The closure will allow El Paso’s import facility and other locations, to assist with the processing of the thousands of migrants currently occurring between the ports of entry in the El Paso area.
The Bridge of the Americas cargo facility typically processes over 700 northbound commercial trucks daily but recently saw that number reduced to approximately 200 after the state’s enhanced safety inspections were initiated.
Commercial vehicle lanes are usually in operation from 6:00 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The closure will continue until further notice. CBP’s office of field operations stated they will remain in communication with stakeholders.
