EL PASO, Texas -- Officials said they were looking into the cause of an elementary student's sudden death just hours after falling ill at her northeast El Paso school.

Confirmation of the investigation from the El Paso Independent School District came one day after the girl was taken to the hospital after becoming sick at H.R. Moye Elementary School.

School district officials were notified Thursday morning that the girl had died at the hospital and launched an investigation into her death, said EPISD spokesman Gustavo Reveles.

He said he couldn't share the victim's name, age or grade but added that officials do not believe there's any threat posed to other students.

Reveles indicated that the school would be making available grief counselors as a result of the child's death.
