Canutillo ISD extends school closure indefinitely due to stay-at-home virus order
CANTILLO, Texas -- The Canutillo Independent School District became at least the second school system in El Paso County to extend the closure of its schools indefinitively.
The decision comes after the county judge just days ago issued a stay-at-home order until further notice to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
Canutillo ISD had been scheduled to resume classes March 30, but will now shift to online learning instead, officials said Thursday. The district also continues to provide students with take-home lunches that can be picked up at schools.
The county's largest school system, the El Paso Independent School District, announced earlier this week that it would remain closed indefinitely as it too implements a "distance learning" program for students.
