Authorities probe deaths of 2 service members at Texas military base

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The deaths of two U.S. service members whose bodies were found last week in separate incidents at a military base in San Antonio are being investigated, officials said Tuesday.

Officials with Joint Base San Antonio said while both deaths are still under investigation, foul play is not suspected. Both individuals were found in their residences on the base. No other information could be immediately provided, officials said.

Army Spc. Brittany Harris, 35, died at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston around 7 a.m. Nov. 25. Harris was training to become a combat medic and joined the Army in August 2020. She was assigned to the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence in early November.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Peter Gonzalez, 21, died at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland around 5 a.m. Nov. 26. Gonzalez was a biomedical equipment technician assigned to the 59th Medical Wing. He joined the Air Force in 2019.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of both Brittany and Peter,” said Brig. Gen. Caroline Miller, the commander of the 502d Air Base Wing and Joint Base San Antonio.

A call and email seeking additional information from the base on the two deaths were not immediately returned Tuesday.
