Las Cruces mom gets donated van to help toddler get transplant
LAS CRUCES, New Mexico -- A Las Cruces non-profit and car dealership have teamed up to help family in need. Revolution 120 and the Sisbarro Car Dealership donated a used minivan for Cherie Sisneros to take her 2-year-old daughter Kezia to Salt Lake City for a liver transplant.
Keiza was diagnosed with biliary atresia when she was two months old. "I took her to the doctor," Sisneros said. "She was very yellow. I knew something was wrong."
Doctors found a match for the liver transplant, but the procedure will be done in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Sisneros, a single mother of four children all under the age of five, told ABC-7 that she reached out to Revolution 120 for help in order to get her daughter and the rest of her family to Salt Lake City and they decided to step in.
"Can you imagine, that you have a 2-year-old child, you have the transplant set, you can save this child’s life, except for the fact that you cant get there," said Marci Dickerson with Revolution 120.
Dickerson also reached out to Lou Sisbarro directly for help. The dealership donated a used 2010 Chrysler Town and Country to Sisneros on Thursday.
Dickerson said the non-profit has been able to raise $11,000. They were also able to provide one-year's worth of car insurance and are raising more to help Sisneros with six-month's rent for her to stay in Utah while Kezia undergoes treatment.
"I worry everyday if this will be (Kezia's) last so this is a blessing this is a really big blessing I don’t have to worry about it," Sisneros said.
