Bobcat rescued from atop electric pole along Dona Ana County road

DONA ANA COUNTY, New Mexico -- A bobcat in Dona Ana County ended up in a place where you'd least expect to find a bob cat - stuck at the top of an electrical pole.

Someone who noticed the bobcat on top of that high pole on Topaz Road northeast of Las Cruces called authorities.

Doña Ana County officials collaborated with the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish agents along with El Paso Electric Company crews to rescue the animal.

No one was hurt during this rescue and officials later released the animal in the remote Lake Valley area near Hillsboro in the Gila National Forest.

Fish and game agents said they strongly urge people to avoid approaching or getting too close to wildlife, even if the animal is in danger like the bobcat was. The professionals advise letting them handle these types of situations.
