Fundraiser set up to help train conductor’s family after train derailment death

KVIA

EL PASO, Texas– The investigation continues into the death of the train conductor 49-year-old Mario Aurelio Navarro, a Union Pacific employee.

According to police, a derailment device used on earlier work had not been removed at the track, causing the derailment of the train that hit Navarro.

ABC-7 has reached out to the Union Pacific Railroad for an interview, and they have declined our request.

A spokesperson with the company said Union Pacific continues to cooperate with both local and federal authorities on the investigation.

A GoFundMe page has been circulating on social media and has raised over $17,000 to help Mario's family with funeral costs.

ABC-7 is working to verify its authenticity.
