El Paso drummers participate in Rhythm In Step event

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Rhythm in Step is a group of elementary school students that marches to the beat of its own drum. They held an event on Saturday.

The organization is the brainchild of Christian Brown who is a UTEP student and works with elementary school students interested in percussion and dance.

"What inspired me was giving students an early opportunity for music because that is what I had," said Brown. "And not everybody has a chance to get private lessons if they are not lucky enough."

Students from the Del Valle feeder pattern are part of the organization and practice Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Lomaland Park, 715 Lomita Dr. from 1 to 3 p.m.

Kaiden Buford, a member in the drum line, says the one thing he likes about the group, "that I actually get to show my true passion."

Gavin Avila says, "It will be hard and a challenge, that's just why you have to push through it."
