El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2022: Steven Lee
EL PASO, Texas -- In his day Steven Lee was a hotshot running back, now he leaves the running to his players.
For a few years in the mid-80's Friday night lights in El Paso were known as the Steven Lee show, ABC-7 even named the Austin high school footballer, player of the year in 1986.
In that season, Lee scored five touchdowns in five consecutive games off just his first touch.
He says he also set a statewide record with 497 rushing yards and seven touchdowns in a single game in his senior year.
"It was something that kind of in my mind that still stands out that a lot of people remember me for," Lee said. "I guess that night when it happened I didn't know what came out of it until the very next day and I'm getting phone calls."Â
Lee found a home churning through the opposition on the football field at both the high school and collegiate level, but now he resides on the hardwood as the girls basketball varsity coach at Pebble Hills high school.
He is one of eight inductees in the Class of 2022.
"When I got that phone call it was a total shock for me to now actually get into the hall of fame," Lee said.
The El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be June 22, and will be livestreamed at kvia.com.
