El Paso police say driver failed to yield right of way in deadly upper valley crash

UPDATE (6:00 P.M.): El Paso police have identified one of two people killed in this morning's crash. Police say 37-year-old Michelle Lira of Sunland Park was driving east on Artcraft Road when she tried to make a u-turn in front of a westbound tractor-trailer.

Police say Lira failed to yield the right of way to the tractor-trailer. Lira, and her passenger, a female in her 50s died at the scene.

The crash happened around 8:50 a.m. Tuesday at 600 Artcraft Road.

The tractor-trailer driver was described as a 30-year-old man from El Paso.

UPDATE (4:40 p.m): TxDOT is reporting all lanes are back open, and the scene has been cleared.

UPDATE: TxDOT El Paso indicated in a tweet the clearing time for this crash will be around 4 hours. Artcraft is currently closed between Doniphan and West Side Drive and detours are in place according to TxDOT.

UPDATE: Police have blocked off the intersection at Artcraft Road and Upper Valley road. Cars are being directed back in the direction they arrived.

EL PASO, Texas -- Two people have died in a crash involving a semi at Upper Valley and Artcraft Road, according to police.
