I-10 traffic snarls in Las Cruces: Semi-truck jackknifes, vehicle catches fire

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico -- Friday morning brought a couple of traffic snarls along Interstate 10 in Las Cruces, with separate incidents involving a truck jackknife and a vehicle fire.

In the first incident, a semi-truck jackknifed into a dump truck along I-10 eastbound, injuring at least one person and leaving wreckage strewn in a construction zone.

The crash happened at mile-marker 132 at the Las Cruces airport overpass.

The semi-cab appeared to be destroyed in the crash and New Mexico State Police said a passenger in the semi was transported to University Medical Center in El Paso for treatment of injuries.

The condition of that injured person wasn't immediately known. Investigators also didn't indicate if they had determine what caused the rig to jackknife.

In the second incident, all lanes of I-10 westbound at mile-marker 136 were closed for over an hour due to a vehicle fire. By noon, authorities said the left passing lane had re-opened.
