U.S. Capitol rioter from Texas charged with threatening to ‘assassinate AOC’

WASHINGTON, DC — The U.S. Justice Department revealed new charges Saturday against a Texas man who allegedly participated in the Capitol attack and posted online death threats against Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and a U.S. Capitol Police officer.

Garret Miller of Dallas faces five criminal charges stemming from the Capitol insurrection, including trespassing offenses and making death threats. Miller allegedly tweeted, “assassinate AOC,” according to court documents.

He also said the police officer who fatally shot a Trump supporter during the attack “deserves to die” and won’t “survive long” because it’s “huntin[g] season.”

Prosecutors said in newly released court documents that Miller posted extensively on social media before and during the attack, saying a “civil war could start” and “next time we bring the guns.”

He was arrested on Wednesday, according to the Justice Department. Federal prosecutors are asking a judge to keep him in jail pending trial, and a detention hearing is scheduled for Monday.

  1. I hope the people out there are paying attention, Keyboard bad asses: there are people that are paid good money to monitor social media, you should already know this. If you say something stupid, like a threat you can pay dearly for it. This walking and talking POS AOC is the most dangerous person in the house and I despise her but you can’t say stupid stuff just to get a rise out of someone. Now THAT idiot knows

  2. I’m all for political debate. Even arguments. But we have some violent freakin idiots on the fringes of the left and right that won’t be called out by all our elected officials because they’re afraid of losing votes. There’s probably going to be violence that’ll make Portland and DC look like a Boy Scout Jamboree and it’s preventable. All we need is people like Ted Cruz and AOC to actually stop saying stupid stuff and definitively denounce it. Unfortunately both Ted Cruz and AOC are utterly stupid and only care about votes and not voters.
