Juarez virus death toll holds steady at 104 as new cases rise by 33

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico -- The Chihuahua Ministry of Health reported Thursday that the number of coronavirus deaths in the city of Juárez held steady at 104, while there was one additional death in the state to put its fatality count at 126.

It was a milestone moment for Juárez, as the last day there were no deaths reported in the city was April 27. Juárez currently accounts for 83% of all the deaths in Chihuahua state.

The state's latest death occurred in the city of Chihuahua, which now has 16 total deaths, and is second to Juárez in terms of deceased virus victims.

Other deaths contributing to the Chihuahua state total were two in Guadalupe and one each in Cuauhtémoc, Ascensión, Camargo and Rosales.

Across the state, there were 726 confirmed cases on Thursday, of which 466 belonged to Juárez. That amounted to a 33-case increase for Juárez over the prior day.

The city of Chihuahua is also second in the case count, at 206. Only single-digit numbers of cases exist in the other municipalities.

In Mexico overall, officials said there were a total of 27,634 confirmed virus cases with 2,704 deaths.
