Challenges of keeping peace in the growing migrant camp in Segundo Barrio

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- ABC 7 continues our coverage of the border crisis and the growing migrant camp in Downtown El Paso.

Since Monday the amount of migrants seen camped at Sacred heart church has increased at an accelerated rate. You will see migrants on the streets and sidewalks at least three blocks from the church in every direction.

According to the Associated Press, illegal crossings from Mexico could climb as high as 13,000 a day. El Paso is already struggling to cope with the amount migrants that are here before the eventual lifting of Title 42 on May 11th.

The El Paso police department gave their statement on keeping peace in the camp saying, "Policing in the Segundo Barrio is a challenging task that requires sensitivity, empathy, and a deep understanding of the community's unique needs and concerns. Officers are frequently confronted with a variety of situations, including responding to calls for service. In addition to crime, officers must also ensure that migrants are not being exploited or victimized."
