UTEP sells out of plants for FloraFEST
EL PASO, Texas - An overwhelming demand for plants at Saturday's FloraFEST led to an early end to the weekend event.
According to the event website, Sunday's event was canceled because organizers sold out of all their plants.
"We bring in a bunch of native and native adaptive plants to sell to the community," said Kevin Floyd, a botanical curator with the Centennial Museum and Chihuahuan Desert Gardens. "It's a really great event."
He said UTEP planned to sell between 1,500 and 2,000 plants on Saturday, including red yuccas, prickly pear cacti and cone flowers.
Floyd said the event is the only fundraiser for the operations and management of the UTEP gardens.
