Damaged gas line in Lower Valley won’t be fixed until sometime Wednesday night

UPDATE: Texas Gas Service said it would be sometime Wednesday night before crews would be able to complete repairs to a damaged and leaking gas line in the Lower Valley.

A utility spokesperson said the gas line near La Paz and Rodeo streets was damaged by a third-party contractor working in the area.

"Our crews will likely be onsite for a good part of the evening making repairs to the damage. We ask the public to avoid the area and respect any traffic control for the protection of first responders," said Chrsity Penders of Texas Gas Service.

ORIGINAL REPORT: EL PASO, Texas -- A Lower Valley gas line rupture prompted some evacuations and a shelter-in-place order on Wednesday afternoon.

The rupture was reported around 2 pm and the cause had not been determined.

Residents in the Lower Valley neighborhood near La Paz and Rodeo streets were told to evacuate or shelter-in-place after the gas line ruptured.

There were at least 6 fire units at the scene waiting for Texas Gas Service to arrive.

No injuries were reported.
