‘Special day’: Crowds turn out for 23rd Annual Veterans Parade & Celebration in San Elizario
SAN ELIZARIO, Texas -- Dozens of people gathered for the 23rd Annual Veterans Parade and Celebration in San Elizario on Saturday.
"To me its a very special day in remembrance of all the military personnel that have done their service for this nation," said Carlos Soza, a Vietnam veteran who attended the special event.
The Veterans Committee of the San Elizario Genealogy and Historical Society held the event at Veterans Memorial Plaza in front of the San Elizario Church.
"San Elizario has been a focal point of veterans that goes back to World War I, World War II...so it has been a very patriotic community," said Francisco Soto, also a Vietnam veteran.
During the celebration, five veterans were specifically recognized for their service, including a World War II veteran. The celebration also held the lighting of the Candles and the POW-MIA table ceremony.
"I'm very proud of the service men that are here and the ones that we will never forget," Soza said.
