Fire causes significant damage to home garage in Las Colinas neighborhood of Las Cruces

UPDATE, Nov. 9: Las Cruces fire officials said the attached garage of a home suffered heavy damage following a fire that happened Monday afternoon.

The blaze in the 4900 block of Rock Court also resulted in damage to a car parked just outside the garage.

Fire officials said Tuesday that the cause of the fire remained under investigation; it was largely contained to the garage.

No injuries occurred and the Red Cross was assisting the family who lived in the home.

ORIGINAL REPORT, Nov. 8: LAS CRUCES, New Mexico -- Fire burned a Las Cruces home in the Las Colinas neighborhood on Monday afternoon.

Officials said there were no injuries from the fire that happened in the 4000 block of Rock Court, which sits behind Highland Elementary School.

Residents in the area could see thick, dark smoke pouring out of the roof of the home before firefighters were able to gain control of the blaze.

The cause of the fire was under investigation; there was no immediate word on the extent of damage.
