Seymour (WLKY) — A mural depicting rock and roll legend John Mellencamp is nearing completion in his hometown of Seymour, Indiana.

The mural is located on Second Street, on the side of This Old Guitar Music Store. The store’s owner and high school classmate of Mellencamp, Larry McDonald, tells WLKY he worked since 2014 to make the mural a reality.

“John was able to take his talent and drive to the next level, and it’s a great way to honor his success. He’s in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame,” McDonald said.

Indianapolis-based artist Pamela Bliss says dedicating the past few weeks to the project has been an honor.

“As a young adult, I listened to his music. I kind of grew up with his music and so I’ve been singing all the music and listening to it while I’m painting the mural. So, it’s quite an honor,” she said.

The mural is expected to completed in November. Those close to the project say it has not been decided if Mellencamp will return to Seymour for its unveiling.
