Driver fled scene after hitting woman in wheelchair

    PHOENIX, AZ (KNXV) — Phoenix police are looking for a driver who struck a woman in a wheelchair early Thursday morning.

The crash occurred around 4:45 a.m. near 43rd Avenue and Indian School Road.

Police say the woman was crossing 43rd Avenue mid-block when a northbound vehicle hit her and took off from the scene.

The woman was left with very serious injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Officials are working to gather information about the vehicle and have not passed along further details about the crash.

The area around 43rd Avenue will be restricted Thursday morning for the investigation.
