Asheville, NC (WLOS) — There’s one woman who will be at the Asheville Holiday Parade on Saturday no matter the weather.

Maryellen Woods has been in the parade since she was a little girl. She’s been doing it now for 46 years — and always on a horse.

This year, Woods and her trusty steed, 36-year-old Doc’s Lady Boy, will be riding together for the 22nd year.

So, why does she do it?

“It just got started. I got thrown into it the first year. And after that, it’s just like, ‘Yeah, I got to do the parade again.’ And then it got to the point I was doing a streak, you know. Oh yeah, I gotta keep my streak going, I gotta keep my streak going,” Woods said.

Woods, who has only missed one year, said her goal is to ride in 50 parades, then she’ll decide if she wants to do anymore.

Woods said this will be only the second time she’s had to wear rain gear.
