Sam Houston takes down New Mexico State, 79-67

HUNTSVILLE, Texas - Davon Barnes scored 20 points as Sam Houston beat New Mexico State 79-67 on Thursday night.

Barnes was 8-of-18 shooting (4 for 11 from 3-point range) for the Bearkats (11-9, 4-1 Conference USA).

Souleymane Doumbia scored 11 points and added nine rebounds and three blocks. Damon Nicholas Jr. shot 4 for 5 (2 for 3 from 3-point range) and 0 of 3 from the free-throw line to finish with 10 points.

Jordan Rawls led the way for the Aggies (9-11, 3-2) with 18 points and two steals.

Femi Odukale added 17 points, seven rebounds and three steals for New Mexico State.

Kaosi Ezeagu also had eight points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

The game was close going into the half, as Sam Houston held a one-point lead, 38-37.

Barnes paced their team in scoring through the first half with nine points.

Sam Houston took the lead with 18:51 left in the second half and did not relinquish it. Barnes helped their team pull away for the victory with 11 second-half points.
