Del Valle’s Bruce Reichman becomes Texas’ all-time winningest high school boy’s soccer coach
EL PASO, Texas - In 1987, Bruce Reichman didn't know anything about soccer. As an assistant football coach for the Del Valle Conquistadores, Reichman had never really interacted with the sport.
But when the school principal approached him about taking on the role as soccer coach, he agreed to it for the season.
Fast forward to today, and Reichman is the all-time winningest coach in the history of Texas high school boys' soccer.
"It's amazing," says Reichman, whose 670 wins are tops in the Lone Star state. "It shows if you stick something long enough, and all the other guys there up there have retired, I guess you get your numbers up higher than them."
Under Reichman's watch, the Conquistadores have won two Texas State Titles (2005 & 2008), in addition to a second place finish in 2013.
Most recently, Reichman coached Del Valle to a State Final Four berth in Class 5A. Del Valle was defeated by Wakeland 4-2 earlier in April.
In June 2012, Coach Reichman was named to ESPN's list of most “winningest” High School Soccer Coaches in the United States.
Reichman is also a member of the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame. In addition to his coaching duties, he also serves on the faculty of Del Valle High School.
Reichman told ABC-7's Nate Ryan that he ideally would like to coach two more seasons of soccer for the Conquistadores before turning the program over to one of his assistants.
