Three teenagers killed, three others injured in Chaparral crash
CHAPARRAL, New Mexico -- New Mexico State Police say a 16-year-old driver failed to stop at a posted stop sign before crashing into a truck. The impact killed the 16-year-old and his two passengers, a 15-year-old girl and an 18-year-old man.
State police say the teenagers were not wearing their seatbelts but also say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
Three people in the other car were taken to a hospital in El Paso for their injuries. But officials say their injuries were not life-threatening.
Those victims were described as a 40-year-old male, a 51-year-old female, and an 18-year-old male.
New Mexico State Police did not release the victims' identities, citing privacy for the family.
The crash happened Friday. According to investigators, the 16-year-old was going east on Steve Drive while the truck he hit was going south on Angelina Blvd.
NMSP says the crash remains under investigation.
