Local scouts place 4,000 American Flags for fallen heroes
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Over 4,000 flags were placed here at Fort Bliss National Cemetery to honor the men and women who served our country.
"I'm really thankful because if they weren't here to serve our country, we wouldn't be able to have the freedom that we have," said Brayden Drury, Boy Scout.
The Boys and Girls Scouts of America got to work early for the Memorial Day Flag placement. They arrived at eight Saturday morning to place 4,000 flags on the headstones of America's fallen heroes.
"It's important for our kids to teach them service", said Michelle Rosalez Director of the El Paso Navigators the Adventurors and Pathfinders. "We are out here today to just show our respect for all those who've come before and made this possible for us."
"Just to remember the people that gave so much for the freedoms that we have today because those freedoms are precious. I've been all around the world. We're the only ones that have what we have and we have to preserve it. So we have our young, we want to raise them up to understand and to honor that," said Michael Hayes Scout Master for Troop 27.
"It's so important to me because you don't know the price of freedom until it's actually taken from you or you've never been to a country that doesn't have that type of freedom," CPL. Samuel R. Blount, Army Veteran.
"And I'm also an active military, so I feel good to come and see my fellow who fought for us," Jane Anyona.
"She gives me the strength to see that I can also do the same career that she's doing," Genevieve Anyona.
"I want to thank her and all the Servicemen on base because they've all done something to improve this country," Gloria Anyona.
