Sunland Park woman killed in 5-car pile-up on I-10 near The Fountains of Farah

UPDATE: El Paso police officers on Sunday afternoon identified a 27-year-old New Mexico woman as the fatality in a five-car pileup along Interstate 10 earlier in the day.

The deceased, Kandy Abigail Duarte-Cassiano of Sunland Park, was the driver of one of the cars involved in what investigators said was a chain-reaction crash.

Police said the deadly wreck was triggered when a stopped pickup truck was rear-ended by a car "causing it to roll over and start a chain reaction of collisions."

Cassiano was killed when her car was t-boned during the pile-up. Police indicated she was El Paso's 49th traffic death of the year, compared to 52 at the same point a year ago.
