BOSTON (WMTW) — Sometimes maternal bonds can cross into other species.
A Maine family from Jefferson is sharing video from their trip to the Franklin Park Zoo last month, where one of the gorillas seemed fascinated with their five-week-old son.
Emily Austin held up her sleeping son Canyon near the safety glass of the gorilla exhibit and he immediately caught the eye of Kiki the gorilla. According to Austin, Kiki stared at the baby boy lovingly for “well over five minutes.”
Emily’s husband, Michael Austin, shot and uploaded footage of the interaction to YouTube Saturday.

Emily says she didn’t know that Kiki was also a new mom when they shared this moment together — the gorilla gave birth to her fifth child, and first son, back in October.
